STUDIO MEMBERSHIP AT SLIPSTREAM CLAY STUDIO

Here’s what you get for $110 a month:

  • Access to all open studio times each week-as space allows (no more than 10 people at a time). This will change in 2025 to allow members to enter the studio anytime with a lockbox key.

  • Access during class times-as space allows (students are prioritized during class times)

  • Use of shop glazes, equipment and tools

  • Use of a personal shelf for storing your work in progress

  • Shop tech/instructor who is present for studio times that you can bounce ideas off of or learn a new skill from as needed.

  • Monthly dues are paid through an online portal on this website.

CLAY AND GLAZE POLICY: Members are required to purchase their clay from the studio, which costs an average of $35 for a 25 lb. bag. The studio’s clay cost includes a discount (because the studio buys in bulk) and an additional cost for firings and glaze materials. Requesting to use outside clay will mean an additional firing charge of $10 per 25 lb. bag. No outside clay or glazes are to be used without Vicki’s approval in advance. *I will want to see the bag or bottle information to confirm Cone temperature (if unmarked, the answer will be “no”). If your unapproved clay or glaze gets in and damages the kiln you may be released from your membership or asked to help pay for repairs, depending on the situation.

Who is eligible? I reserve the right to decline and approve memberships as I see fit. This is a cultivated community so I am looking to spend my time with members that play nice together. These people will be community oriented, happy to pitch in for their share of work (sometimes a bit more) and respectful of the space, other members and safety concerns. I prefer that members take an 8-week beginner/refresher course with me to orient themselves to the studio procedures. If a prospective member would like to join without a refresher course, I would like to do an in-person interview and an orientation. All prospective members should contact me in person, by phone: 503-730-7577 or by email: vicki.lynn.wilson@hotmail.com

What is expected of you as a member? It is expected is that you will operate in the space, adhering to the stated policies of this studio and set a good example for students. If you encounter a situation that doesn’t meet the studio standard, I expect you to communicate with me about it.

  • Cleaning up is always the biggest of deals in a ceramics studio and it is a matter of health and safety. It’s a huge deal to me because my health is most likely to be affected over years of exposure to unsafe dust. Members may be asked to help with tasks around the studio from time to time. Please feel free to ask for instruction and do these things as needed:

  • wipe down spills on the glaze buckets

  • clean the sink where clay residue builds up

  • recycle some clay

  • scrape kiln shelves

  • apply kiln wash to shelves

  • wash the studio floors at the end of a day

  • return misplaced tools to their place

  • put away washed tools from by the sink

  • wet clean the dust off of some shelving

You will be required to sign a statement acknowledging that you have read and understand the procedural documents for Slipstream Clay Studio. You will also be required to sign a “LIABILITY WAIVER AND USER AGREEMENT” which includes a photo release and a COVID 19 health requirement.

You do not need to print and sign before attending the shop, I will have a group signature page for you to sign on your first day. You can read and download all of the documents as 1 PDF HERE.
